when race vs attachment decides VERY INTERESTING - Adoption ...

I've actually been in a similar situation, just to a lesser degree. As a foster parent, our job is to love these children, it is the state's job to sort out the law, and to do their job I might add. In our case, we had a 6 yo Hispanic girl placed with us, we are white. We bonded, she was extremely well adjusted, and we were a happy family. As I told her all the time, she had two families, a blood family and a Love family, neither better or worse, just different. Two months short of her being with us for 2 years, she was ripped away from us - the 2nd time in her life she was ripped from all the people she knew and loved - and was moved across the country to live with an aunt she had never met. Was this aunt blood -yes, was she Hispanic -yes Did she love my Squirt anymore than we did -definitely not Did Squirt have a bond with us -yes Did she have a bond with her -no. Will her ability to trust and love be affected by so much unnecessary loss - only time will tell. There is more to life, love, and family than blood, skin color, and even culture. Things can be taught, children can be exposed to different and even to their own culture, but history shows that overcoming the damage created by breaking emotional bonds and security is difficult at best, and IMHO it is unnecessary. This system created to care for children, I think more times than not, look after the best interests for everyone bio rather than truly putting the best interests of children first.
