The Government of Saint Lucia and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Monday, January 21, 2013 signed a financing agreement for the establishment of a National Competitiveness and Productivity Council (NCPC).
IDB is providing funding amounting to US$496,200 or EC$1,348,126, while the Government of Saint Lucia is providing US$233,400 or EC$634,124.
According to the officials, the objectives of the project are to ?improve the enabling environment for business development, trade, and integration, and develop a mechanism for improved public-private dialogue through the establishment of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council to promote competitiveness and productivity in Saint Lucia?.
The Inter-American Development Bank was represented by Executive Director of Compete Caribbean, Sylvia Dohnert. Representatives of the Caribbean Development Bank and the Caribbean Growth Forum were also on hand to witness the signing of the agreement.
Also in attendance were Saint Lucia Manufacturers Association President Paula Calderon, Saint Lucia Employers Federation President Malcolm Charles, and a representative of the National Workers Union.
