Leitir Mor succeeds in Ballycorus Stakes ? Horseracing News

Leitir Mor landed successful in the Ballycorus Stakes (Group 3) at Leopardstown in Ireland on Thursday, June 13, 2013.

Although most people would have not expected such a strong run from the three-year-old colt, Jim Bolger thought the other way. The veteran trainer said, "He (Leitir Mor) deserved that. Seven furlongs or a mile suits him. I told Kevin (Manning) to give him a good blow out with next Tuesday in mind. He'll join Dawn Approach in the St James's Palace Stakes and Ronan Whelan will ride."

The Irish challenger was priced 13 to 2 for the race at Leopardstown and he was up against some solid runners. He started off the seven furlong contest in a decent way and kept pushing hard until the final few yards. His pace towards the end of the race was extremely good, which allowed him to finish on top of the table by a neck distance.

Looking at the victories tally of Leitir Mor, it seems that he is an ordinary runner, as he has only won a couple of events out of 16 times. His strike rate is on the lower side, but that does not mean he has been uncompetitive in remaining of his outings.

Other than the wins, the seasoned stallion has finished as a runner up seven times and secured the third place three times in his career. This goes on to show that he does not make life easy for his opponents but lacks the finishing touch like his stable-mate Dawn Approach.

The 2013 season did not prove to be a good one for Leitir Mor prior to the Ballycorus Stakes. He was unable to make any impression and looked down on confidence. However, the situation improved for him last time around and his camp will be hoping that he carries on with the same momentum in the future competitions.

On the other hand, Reply?s trainer, Aidan O?Brien, would have been extremely disappointed with the outcome of the Ballycorus Stakes.

The veteran trainer was looking in a great position to secure another Group 3 victory, but his runner could only manage fifth in the end, which was also a surprise for the bookies, who had rated him as the favourite to succeed.
