Athletes arriving in London ahead of the Olympics are being told to stay away from the Olympic Park because it is still a construction site. Village and were told to stay away from the park until July 23. It is believed that bad weather and recent security issues may have caused the delays, but organisers insist preparations are on schedule. A member of one of the national teams told The Sunday Telegraph: ?We were told the Olympic Park won?t open until the 23rd. ?This is a week later than what we expected. We were told this is because of some construction issues in the park. ?We were assured they are relatively minor but it has come as a surprise because we had been told for some months now that the park was on time and ready, and it isn?t.? Athletes have been promised that the extended preparations will not get in the way of their training programmes. James Bulley, director of venues for the organising committee Locog, said: ?We?re not at the stage yet where we?re ready to flick the TV on. ?The athletes aren?t ready to start competing yet, either. We want all our venues to look absolutely spectacular and pristine.? Organisers have endured a tough time recently after 3,500 army staff had to be called on to provide security at the Games due to a staff shortage at security firm G4S.
