President: Pressure on business is crime against country and society

Law enforcement and control agencies must not interfere with business and civil society development or with the work of local self-government, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today?s meeting of the Council of Regions, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

The President said that the pressure of control agencies on business and local self-governments does harm and reduces public confidence in the authorities. "As we are implementing deep reforms, such actions are provocative and a crime not only against the law, but against the country and the society," Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President drew Prosecutor General?s attention to the need to analyze the complaints and appeals coming from small and medium businesses about control agencies? pressure, and conduct a meeting with regional governors to discuss this issue.

According to the President, law enforcement and control agencies? top ranking officers also should go to the regions of Ukraine to conduct field studies of the problem and inform the President on the work performed. "It should be done in a short time, any violations must be put an end to immediately, and the perpetrators must be punished. I would like to also appeal to the Prosecutor General to make sure this work is organized wisely, without going too far,? Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President also instructed bringing law enforcement and control agencies? internal regulations and procedure guidelines in line with the existing deregulation legislation.
