Prior to starting the treatment of hemorrhoids, it is important that the sufferer sees a doctor to diagnose the problem. Conditions other than hemorrhoids can show the same symptoms and could require specialized medical treatment. Having had a diagnosis of hemorrhoids then it helps, when deciding on the hemorrhoid treatments to be applied, to identify which type of hemorrhoids is occurring.
There are basically two types of hemorrhoids and each one of them requires a different approach to treatment. This is why individuals should never address the condition by themselves without a proper diagnosis. Instead, they should allow a doctor to assess the situation and provide them with a solution. That being said, following are the two types of hemorrhoids.
Internal Hemorrhoids
As the name suggests, the internal type happens inside the anal canal. The veins at the lining of the rectum start to swell and become inflamed which causes extreme discomfort for the sufferer. Some of the symptoms of this type include bleeding on the stool and the prolapse of the veins. Depending on the level of severity, individuals might find their veins falling out of place permanently or temporarily. Either way, the condition should be quickly assessed by a doctor so that it would not cause further problems for the sufferer.
During the first few stages of this condition, it is unlikely that individuals would experience a prolapse of the veins. Instead, there will be itching along the edge of the anus and most suffers would feel as though they still need to use the toilet even after passing stools. At this point, pain may also be felt. As already mentioned, the existence of blood in the stool is already a clear indicator that something is wrong. Hence, even if all the symptoms mentioned here are not present, the sufferer must still be brought to the doctor as soon as possible. Keep in mind that the treatment of hemorrhoids works better if they are addressed as soon as possible. For many cases a home remedy can be applied. But if the situation has become serious then medical treatment may be the only solution.
External Hemorrhoids
External hemorrhoids refer to damage and aggravation of the veins right underneath the anus. As the name suggests, the condition is external and therefore a bit easier to spot than its internal counterpart is. Some of the symptoms of this problem include an itching and burning sensation along the anus that is hard to ignore. Since the problem is easily reachable, some individuals may scratch the area, complicating the problem further.
Like the internal type, sufferers will find themselves straining during a bowel movement and finding blood along their anal area. In most cases, sufferers always feels as though they still need to excrete something even though they have managed to release all the solid waste stuck in their body. When not addressed immediately, the problem would start to develop into a physical lump along the anal exterior. Like internal hemorrhoids, sufferers are advised to refer themselves to a doctor as soon as they feel any discomfort or spot blood in their stool.
Although the consequences of ignoring a problem with hemorrhoids can become serious and require medical intervention, fortunately these occasions are few. In the vast majority of cases both internal and external hemorrhoids will respond to simple home hemorrhoid treatments applied consistently.
