Every two weeks, Search Influence?s Kelly Benish ? who knows practically everyone in hyperlocal ? covers some of the latest job changes taking place in this dynamic industry. (Plus: Scroll down for jobs on offer now.)
Mike DeLuca ? Breadcrumb (Groupon)
I had the pleasure of meeting 20-year sales veteran Mike DeLuca at a BIA Kelsey networking lunch a while back when I was first on the local circuit. He completely welcomed me into his conversation. You never forget that. At the time he was SVP of sales and operations at AOL Local and he later took a seat on Yodle?s advisory board. DeLuca was recently appointed VP of sales for Breadcrumb, Groupon?s iPad-based point-of-sale system for restaurants, bars and cafes. The multitasker that he is,?DeLuca will also remain in his current role as VP of sales and operations for another of Groupon?s properties,?Savored, which provides a restaurant reservation and yield management platform.
Keir Merle, Mok Oh ? Locu
Locu?recently added?Keir Mierle?as director of engineering. It?s quite a coup. Mierle just spent the last five years at?Google?s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., working on the Geo team, the Android team on Google Now, and most recently in Google X Lab on Google Glass. Mierle says he is ?excited to join such a passionate,?driven team that is on a mission to make a big impact, becoming every local merchant?s friend.??Mok Oh?was also brought on as adviser to the company. Oh, who received his doctorate in computer graphics from MIT in 2002, recently left his post as chief scientist at?PayPal. Oh had joined PayPal following the acquisition of?Where.com; he had served as chief innovation officer there. Previously he started EveryScape and served as its CTO. Oh, who has been spending some time with Locu?s team since leaving PayPal, says he is ?taking a hands-on advisory role helping Locu further develop its offering to merchants, particularly focusing on bridging the online-offline divide.?
Tom Karrat, Seth Weingarten ? Booker
There?s so much happening at?Booker! In the past year it?s had a big fund-raising, a move to New York City (and confrontation with Hurricane Sandy), a name change from GramercyOne, a tripling in digital revenue growth, and a tripling of staff. And it plans to hire more people in 2013. And here?s whom the company has brought on lately: Booker snagged Tom Karrat, who was the SVP at Yahoo Jobs, to be its chief revenue officer and?Seth Weingarten, who was lured from Yahoo Jobs where he was director of sales, to be VP of SMB sales. Previously Karrat was?EVP at?Mimeo, and he served on the advisory board of Yodle?and?Clickable?in recent years. Weingarten was VP of sales at?Mimeo?in the past. The historical data says that Karrat and Weingarten enjoy working together, and no doubt with this dynamic duo on board Booker will be booking sales numbers.
Steve Kalin ? Patch
Who?s the boss??It?s not Tony Danza. And the question is, is it Patch?s Warren Webster? Over at?Patch,?Steve Kalin?was placed in the new position of president and COO, snagging one of Warren?s titles (read more?here). Kalin will drive the majority of the day-to-day operations of the company, with the advertising, content, finance and marketing reporting functions reporting to him. Kalin has a radio background, most recently having served as COO of radio syndicator?Westwood One.
Christian Dwyer ? Healthgrades, Mike Montgomery ? MapQuest
In my?last column, I wrote about how the legendary?Brian McMahon became general manager at MapQuest, and coincidentally I was lucky enough to meet his predecessor Christian Dwyer at?Interactive Local Media West?last week. In his past role as SVP and general manager at?MapQuest, Dwyer pioneered the evolution of standard Web utility for maps to a second-generation usable solution by focusing on the quality of the data and open source mapping. Recently appointed as SVP of revenue products and distribution for?Healthgrades, Dwyer demonstrates an excitement for the growth possibilities in his new role that?s absolutely contagious.?Last week at MapQuest, Mike Montgomery?was promoted to director of sales from a B2B enterprise sales role.
Stephen Dove ? Medialets
Medialets just hired digital advertising veteran?Stephen Dove as its new SVP of product. Dove was a product manager for Google for more than four years and chief digital officer at Prisa TV, Spain?s leading pay television platform? No es gran cosa.
