As he exits the murky world of politics, President Kibaki?s Sh500 million retire- ment home is now ready. President Kibaki will leave State House after next year?s March 4 General Election, ending a ten-year term in office. Works on the palatial home in Mweiga, along the Nyeri ? Nyahururu highway, were completed in August this year and a contingent of the General Service Unit (GSU) has been deployed there.
?
After opening this year?s Central ASK show at Kabiruini grounds, President Kibaki toured the home and had lunch there. Since then, his children have visited the home on many occasions. The permanent home lies on a 100 acre of land, which is part of the 1,000 acres of land belonging to Sasini Mweiga Estate. Reports say President Kibaki bought the farm.
The head of the Sasini Mweiga Estate is Naushad Merali, who is his longtime friend. ?The home has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and other modern facilities. It is ready for use,? said a source from the farm. The home has a guest house, main house and secretariat offices. There are also security houses adjacent and a canteen for the workers. Well-manicured grounds, with a capacity of over 300 guests has also been established.
The home is easily accessible with a helipad where helicopters can land and fly uniterrupted. President Kibaki currently has homes in Nairobi?s Muthaiga and Othaya. It is not clear whether he will be alternating between the homes since he will still be visiting the Othaya Kanyange home. The President has visited the home secretly more than twice in the last three years.
?This tells many people that Kibaki might not retire in Othaya after all despite having a home which is well manned by the State and which is only about 25km away. Maybe he would like to rest without regular disturbances from his people who he have represent- ed for about 40 years in Parliament,? said a leader in Othaya.
President Kibaki will next year be retiring after 50 years in active politics. Kibaki entered elective politics in 1963, winning the Doonholm constituency ? now Makadara ? in Nairobi on a Kanu ticket. He shifted to Othaya in 1974, which he has represented uninterrupted. Kibaki won the presidential election by a landslide in 2002 to become Kenya?s third president. His re-election in 2007 was disputed. The constitution bars him from con- testing in 2012 as he will have served two five-year terms.
Kibaki can expect a luxurious life in retirement that includes 38 servants paid for by the public. He will collect a Sh17 million lump sum gratuity as a goodbye token from Government. This is calculated as a sum equal to his annual salary for the two terms served as President as stipulated in the Presidential Retirements Benefits Act (2003).
He will receive at least Sh950, 000 tax-free pensions each month ? calculated as 80 per cent of the salary of the next President. The Othaya MP will be entitled to a housing allowance of Sh300,000 a month, Sh300,000 each month as electricity, water and telephone allowances; and a further Sh200,000 monthly as entertainment allowance. He will also be entitled to two four-wheel drive cars with an engine capacity of 3,400 cc and two others of his choice with an engine capacity of at least 3,000 cc.
Kibaki will also receive Sh200,000 monthly as fuel allowance. A reputable insurance company will provide him and his wife at Government expense, with full medical and hospital cover providing for local and overseas treatment. He will be provided with a fully furnished ?suitable? office and supplies.

Current in Carmel ? Showing your home in its best light
Functional, beautiful lighting can?t be created from a single light source. To achieve optimum lighting for your home, consider using layers of light in each room. To help you visualize this, try thinking of each light source as a layer in a cake. Each layer brings a different flavor to the cake, but they come together to make a single delicious dessert. Layering lighting works in the same way, by blending together multiple light sources to create a rich and ambient atmosphere.
The bottom layer of the lighting cake is called the ?overall? layer or ?ambient? layer. This is the foundation of the room?s lighting design. Chandeliers, ceiling fixtures and wall sconces fall into this category, and are intended to create soft illumination for everyday use. The ambient layer will determine the general brightness of the room.?Choose to lower the lights?in bedrooms and dining rooms to generate a romantic atmosphere. Or use brighter ones in the kitchen to make the room feel vibrant and energetic.
The next layer of lighting is the ?task? lighting. This bright layer illuminates specific areas or surfaces to help with activities like cooking or reading. Because task lighting is more direct,?using more of these lights?instead of ambient lighting can help you save on energy bills.
Accent lighting refers to the top layer of our lighting system. This lighting helps enhance the room and create visual interest. You can use accent lighting to illuminate art or architectural elements. Accent lights are usually adjustable so they can be used to produce a variety of styles for the room. Put the icing on the cake by implementing decorative lights. This layer doesn?t necessarily add functional light to the room; it?s mainly there to complete the look of the room. Make sure these lights are on the dim side so they don?t overpower the rest of your d?cor.
Light layering techniques are especially relevant now around the holidays. String lights and candles are the perfect third or fourth layer for your home lighting scheme. Dim the ambient lights to make your Christmas tree and decorations really shine. A fireplace can also act as a cozy lighting source. Have fun decorating and happy holidays to you all!

Huawei D2, Mate and W1 reportedly pose for press images
Huawei has already left little doubt as to what we'll see from its smartphone line at CES. If official teasers aren't enough, however, well-known phone tipster @evleaks has given Unwired View what's purported to be press images for the three key introductions. The Ascend W1 Windows Phone (at left) looks much like we've seen from live shots, just with newer black and pink hues; the Ascend D2 (right) isn't quite so rainbow-like, but supports what's been claimed of the 5-inch phone's aesthetic and custom interface. A shot for the Ascend Mate (after the break), despite representing the company's stand-out device, is the least surprising given that executive Richard Yu showed customers the real thing just days ago. We'd still give these images a long look -- while there's chances for inaccuracies or surprises, they may be the best glimpses of Huawei's early 2013 lineup before we see it first-hand.

Fitness Trends For 2013 ? Worldwide Survey | Total Nutrition Dallas
This annual survey is now in its seventh consecutive year. The 2013 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends supported previous trends and also reinforced the deletion of three trends that had previously appeared to be strong for 2 to 3 years but now have dropped off the list for the third year in a row much to the disappointment of Pilates instructors all over the globe.
Pilates, stability ball, and balance training again failed to appear on the list of top 20 trends in the health and fitness industry, supporting the theory that these were fads and not trends.
The Top 10 For 2013
?
10.? Group Personal Training ? the answer for sluggish economy is join a small group and share the cost for semi-personal training rather than going it alone.
9.? Core Training ? Core training stresses strength and conditioning of the stabilizing muscles of the abdomen, thorax, and back.
It typically includes exercises of the hips, lower back, and abdomen, all of which provide support for the spine and thorax. Exercising the core muscles improves overall stability of the trunk and transfers that to the extremities, enabling the individual to meet the demands of activities of daily living and for the performance of various sports that require strength, speed, and agility.
Core training often uses stability balls, BOSU balls, wobble boards, foam rollers, and other pieces of equipment.
8. ?Functional Fitness ? Functional fitness may be defined as using strength training to improve balance, coordination, force, power, and endurance to improve one?s ability to perform activities of daily living.
Functional fitness programs reflect actual activities one might do as a function of daily living.
7. ?Personal Training ? As more professional personal trainers are educated and become certified (see trend no. 1), they become more accessible to more people in all sectors of the health and fitness industry.
6. ?Fitness Programs for Older Adults ? The concern for the health of aging adults has been consistently at the top of the survey. The baby boom generation is now aging into retirement, and are accustomed to living active lifestyles.
They also heed the examples of their parents and research that staying fit dramatically improves the quality of life long into their future.
5.? Exercise and Weight Loss ? For many years, weight loss programs have been trying to infuse a regular exercise program into the caloric restriction diets of many popular commercial programs. This has been a growing trend since the survey began in 2007.
The combination of exercise and diet is essential for weight loss maintenance and can improve compliance to caloric restriction diets and in particular weight loss programs.
4. ?Children and Obesity ? Pediatricians and fitness experts are all but begging the schools to reinstate daily gym class and put recess back into the school day for pre-k through 6th graders.
The last 20 years has seen a dramatic decrease in schools allowing physical activity in lieu of more time in the classroom. Not only is this dangerous for the kid?s health, it has shown to adversely effect children?s ability to learn, concentrate & test scores have decreased during this same period.
Many schools have completely wiped out gym class and recess, while others allow gym once a week and maybe 15 minutes of recess. This is NOT enough. This also effects all of us, even if we don?t have kids through higher health care costs.
Make it a point in 2013 to contact your state legislators to use legislation to reinstate both gym and recess a minimum of 45 minutes a day in our schools. (Side note: if you tell the schools 30 minutes, the kids will get 15 minutes, so parents need to monitor for compliance.)
3. ?Body Weight Training ? Appearing for the first time in the trend survey is body weight training.
Body weight training did not appear as an option in previous surveys because it has only now become popular (as a defined trend) in gyms around the world; this is not to say that body weight training has not been used previously.
On the contrary, people have been using their own body weights for centuries as a form of resistance training. Packaging it as an exercise program has now made it popular in all kinds of gyms.
Body weight training often uses minimal equipment, which makes it an inexpensive way to exercise effectively. Most people think of body weight training as being limited to push-ups and pull-ups, but it can be much more than that. Body weight training may be a trend to watch as more people get ?back to the basics.?
2.? Strength Training ? Strength training remains at the no. 2 position for the second year in a row but has been a strong trend since the first year of this survey.
This trend calls for both men and women to incorporate strength training into their exercise routines or to use it as the primary form of exercise.
Historically, many clients of both community-based programs and commercial clubs trained exclusively using weights, and there are still those who lift weights for body building.
However, today, there are many other individuals (both men and women, young and old, and children) whose main focus is on using weight training to improve or maintain strength
1.? Educated, Certified, and Experienced Fitness Professionals ? It has become clear that in this still sluggish economy, as the market for fitness professionals becomes even more crowded and more competitive, those professionals with a national third-party accreditation have a way to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
